Dear friend Ufopolitics,

Thank you very much for sharing this new minimalist three-coil configuration.
I have carefully studied both the circuit and Your explanation.

I understand the concept of keeping the Center Coil (Q3) continuously energized while alternately switching only Q1 and Q2.

It is an elegant simplification, and I can see how it maintains a continuous magnetic reference field while expanding the field toward each end of the core.
I also appreciate your explanation regarding the FC1 and FC2 feedback coils.

Following your recommendation:
I will prepare a second pair of FC1 and FC2 coils with approximately 7 Ω resistance each, in addition to the 2 Ω pair that has already been manufactured.

This will allow me to compare both feedback configurations under identical test conditions.

My plan is to first complete the SSD 5-Coil experiments and then build this new three-coil constant-center configuration as a separate experimental setup.

By using the same magnetic core, the same Main Secondary, and the same measurement procedure,
then I can objectively compare the performance of both systems.

Thank you again for your continued guidance and for sharing these new ideas.
I look forward to reporting You the measured results.

Kind regards,
Alex / @kampen

This proposal keeps a permanent magnetic bias in the center and only alternates the field expansion toward each end.
That changes the magnetic operating mode and is worth testing.
However, there are several assumptions that the experiment must verify rather than accept in advance:
•   whether the "always-on" center coil improves coupling to the secondary;
•   whether alternating end-coils produce greater output than full sequential excitation;
•   whether FC1 and FC2 actually provide enough stable DC after rectification to contribute meaningful feedback;
•   how much additional heating results from the permanently energized center coil.
Dreams for the future.
Impossible is possible 👽

Hello All,

Mr. Ufo,
Two questions about minimalist setup.

1. Q3 coil has 24 Ohms and Q2 has 12 Ohms, does that mean if we activate the Q2 coil the Bloch wall will stay closer to Q3 (because it has greater field strength than Q2) instead of expanding the magnetic field towards the end?

2. I see the Q3 coil as a permanent magnet in this setup that is constantly ON. I would love to know about the difference between PM and EM when Q1 or Q2 are activated. Is there any tests has been done to see how far the field moves?

Thanks!!!

Mr. Ufo,
Two questions about minimalist setup.

Hello @Art Z.
Excellent questions!
Thanks!

Quote from: Art Z. on Aug 01, 2026, 03:06 AM1. Q3 coil has 24 Ohms and Q2 has 12 Ohms, does that mean if we activate the Q2 coil the Bloch wall will stay closer to Q3 (because it has greater field strength than Q2) instead of expanding the magnetic field towards the end?

Ok, first the relationship between R & I is indirectly proportional, meaning that if we increase R, then I (Amps) will be lesser.from Ohms Law I=V/R, or R=V/I.
So, Q3 (24 Ohms) at same V=12 Input for All Coils (Q1, Q3 & Q2), Q3 would have 0.5A, while Q2 at 12 Ohms, 12V, would have 1.0 Amps. Then Coil Q2 (as well as Q1) would have 1.0 A, that means BOTH END COILS will have a much stronger field, due to higher currents.
Then both coils at ends (Q1 & Q2) will generate a Bloch wall which would be closer to the end travel.
However, this has to do with the way we feed center coil Q3 and the two end coils.
If we do Parallel feed (same Input Source) then resistance will evenly drop for both coils (Q1-Q3) or (Q2-Q3) much lower than if we feed Separate feed for each coil.
For either cases, the resistance will drop when both coils are added power, increasing currents.

Good catch as question!
A PM of very low grade (low field strength) than both end coils could be used here.
Problem is that fluctuations when transitioning will not affect a PM, as it will on an EM for Q3.
At certain point on the transition period, eg: based on a mechanical commutator driver, all Three coils will be ON for a very short period of time. This fact will lower resistance even more, increasing Field strength.
No tests have been done so far on this setup, it is -so far- based on Theories.

You're welcome anytime my dear friend!

Hi UFO,

I hope you don't mind if I make a small correction to your last post.  You posted the following:
So, Q3 (24 Ohms) at same V=12 Input for All Coils (Q1, Q3 & Q2), Q3 would have 0.5A, while Q2 at 12 Ohms, 12V, would have 1.0 Amps. Then Coil Q2 (as well as Q1) would have 1.0 A, that means BOTH END COILS will have a much stronger field, due to higher currents.

The formula for magnetic strength of an EM is based on Ampere/Turns not on current only.  If you have two coils that both have 50 ohms resistance but one has 250 turns and the other has 500 turns then the one with 500 turns will have twice the strength of the one with 250 turns.  There is always a trade off when deciding to wind a coil that will be used as an EM.  Larger wire size means more current but less turns for a given size coil.  Smaller wire means more turns but less current. So if Q1, Q2 and Q3 are all wound with the same gauge wire then obviously Q1 and Q2 are wound with less turns and therefore they will not give a stronger field.  In fact the strength of Q1 and Q2 will each be equal to Q3 if 12v is applied to each of them.  Now if Q1 and Q2 are wound with a heavier gauge wire so that they have the same number of turns as Q3 but the 12 ohms resistance then yes their fields will be much stronger.  I am pretty sure you already knew all this but just trying to clarify for those following along.

Hello to All,
Hello @citfta !! and it is great to have you around!!
As always -a pleasure- on your detailed answers and technical input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reminding us all about the Amps/Turns Law relation on EM's!

Now, about this specific small setup of Three (3) Coils:

  • It is ideal to conceive this design by having in mind that :
  • Q1 & Q2 Coils are intended to Increase Magnetic Field Strength.
  • Whenever turned ON Alternatively.

On a Test Bench Model, I highly recommend to use separate Power Sources (PSU's) for:

  • Constantly fed Coil Q3.
  • Alternated Switching of Q1 & Q2.

As the numbers on Coil resistances on my previously shown design are merely Theoretical, but to show the intention to achieve a Stronger Field everytime they are turned ON.
So, I reduced the two end coils (Q1 & Q2) resistance around 50% of Center Q3.
However, and again, these resistance values are just as an example.

There are other Properties that I want to show on future diagrams...and it relates to Coil Geometries:

  • Center Coil Q3 needs to be as reduced as possible in Length size than other two end coils.
  • End Coils Q1 & Q2 needs to be as long as possible within the Linear Steel Core.

These two different geometries will allow us to:

  • Wind these two end coils (Q1 & Q2) with higher Amp/Turns, plus even coarser gauge wire.
  • But always having much less resistance than Center Coil Q3.

Center Coil Q3 is going to be ON at all times, so, in order to keep it working at low temperatures, we will need a higher resistance as lesser currents.
That not necessarily means exactly 24 Ohms, but maybe even double that amount, as it could also be wound with a finer gauge wire.
Center Coil Q3 is just intended to always keep a WEAK Center Magnetic Field Reference ON, during the alternated switching of End Coils Q1 & Q2.

Now, by Q1 & Q2 being longer in size, it will project its Bloch Wall further away from center reference field established by Q3.
As their Magnetic Poles would be also larger, and stronger on Field Forces.

Where ALL THREE COILS (Q1, Q2, Q3) are to be wound on exactly the same way (either CW or CCW)
This is VERY IMPORTANT!, as it will guarantee same ATTRACTION MAGNETIC CHAIN between all three coils.

So, as an example:

  • When Q1 is ON, as Q3 is also ON...
  • They will form a Q1=N/S-Q3=N/S Chain (only as an example, as it could also be Q1=S/N- Q3=S/N)
  • Magnetic Polarities are 'relative' but ALWAYS adding Fields by ATTRACTION.

Again, I insist on using first separate PSU's for the Two Circuits (fixed + switched) as Test Bench on this model. However, keeping the same Voltages for both.
As currents would vary according to resistances which are part of coil spec's.
And Field Strength dictated by Amps/Turns with coarser wire on end coils Q1 & Q2.

Once that System is running and LOADED, we could try to reduce or increase Q3 Input, and see if that reduces or increases Output from the End Coils FC1 & FC2 plus Main Secondary along steel core, when switching frequencies are running at operating levels of 50-60 Hertz.

Now, this is a very SHORT CYCLE System, as it only have TWO short Field FULL Displacements:

  • Q1=ON/Q2=OFF
  • Q1=OFF/Q2=ON
  • This will make a HALF CYCLE
  • Field is moving FULLY from LEFT to RIGHT.

Then:

  • Q1=OFF/Q2=ON
  • Q1=ON/Q2=OFF
  • Will resume a FULL CYCLE
  • Field RETURNS FULLY by moving from RIGHT to LEFT

RESUMING: Half Cycle Left to Right: Q1=ON, then Q2=ON, then the return Half Cycle, Right to Left (to make a FULL Cycle) Q2=ON, then Q1=ON

So, depending on the number of elements on your commutator on a FULL Rotation of 360º you could have several Full Cycles as from there you will calculate the approximated speed you will need to achieve.

For example: If I use my Old 16 Elements Commutator with just One Brush, and connecting alternatively Full Cycles: [1,2,2,1] till 16.
I will have a total of Four Full Cycles on a 360º Full Rotation:

  • Full Cycle 1 (from first 4 elements) [1,2,2,1]
  • Full Cycle 2 (from other 4 elements) [1,2,2,1]
  • Full Cycle 3 (from other 4 elements) [1,2,2,1]
  • Full Cycle 4 (from final 4 elements) [1,2,2,1]

Resuming that a 16 Elements Commutator (using each element for each Switched ON Coil) will deliver Four Full Cycles on One (1) Revolution. (lower speed required, as lesser time ON)
Or you could bridge-jump every two elements and then have Two Full Cycles on One (1) Revolution with longer time per activated (ON) coil, requiring higher speed.
Or, completing only One (1) Full Cycle by One (1) Revolution (1:1 Scale), when jumping Four (4) Elements together to keep one switching Coil ON.
As this 1:1 Scale will require 3600 RPM's to produce 60 Hertz.(60 Full Cycles per Second)

Again, feel free to correct me here on these calculations...as I maybe off completely...lol
